Do you know why I pulled you over?

Do you really think that if I knew why you pulled me over that we would be having this conversation. For if I knew why you were pulling me over I wouldn't have done whatever it was that made you pull me over in the first place!

Six years it took. Six years of being a licensed driver without a ticket, without even being pulled over. A perfect six year driving record was shattered last night, and all I wanted to do was play mini-golf with my boyfriend. I didn't even realize I was being pulled over, such is my naivete. There was another officer in the Scandia parking lot and I thought perhaps the flashing lights behind me were there to join him. Sadly, no. The flashing lights were pulling me over, me! What ever had I done? I felt as if I were some sort of evil criminal, some dastardly villain, what heinous crime could I have possible committed to merit being pulled over in the parking lot of Scandia? I just wanted to play mini-golf, for pete's sake!

Apparently I had ran a stop sign. A stop sign? What stop sign? License and registration, please. I handed it over. Did you know your insurance is expired? another dumb question. Of course I didn't know my insurance was expired, do you think I would have given it to you if I knew it was expired? It was the temporary card, my parents hadn't given me the new policy yet. Another car was being pulled over. I felt sick, I felt shakey, I felt HORRIBLE! But it was my first offence, perhaps this nice officer would take pity on a poor girl with six years of a perfect driving record. Surely he would, he would let me off with a warning and I would be merrily on my way to play mini-golf with my boyfriend. Alas, no. No warning for me, just a pink piece of paper with my first traffic violation scrawled across it in poor handwriting. Failure to stop at a stop sign, and no proof of insurance in vehicle.

They wouldn't let me off with a warning, no. For they had been waiting for me, hiding in the darkness, waiting for the one mistake I and many other drivers would make. It was down right devious! No one can drive perfectly all the time and these vultures were just waiting there waiting for the one mistake we drivers would make. And yet murders are committed every day, women are raped every couple of minutes, robbery is committed... And I fail to stop at a stop sign, that has no sense being there in the first place, and I am marked a criminal! This couldn't be happening, and yet it was. I was given a ticket. My eyes welled up with tears as the officer went back to his hiding place to prey on other unsuspecting drivers who only wanted a nice game of mini-golf on a quiet Saturday night. I cried. My boyfriend comforted me and asked me if I still felt like playing. No, I don't think so, I don't think I ever want to play mini-golf again. I just sat there and cried for awhile with his arm around me, telling me everything would be okay.

We left then, and drove past this supposed stop sign I had run. Sure enough it was there. On the corner of Rancho and Sirius. A three-way stop. I hadn't even noticed it. I was making a right hand turn, there was no cross traffic, Rancho dead-ends a mile or so up the way, and Sirius dead-ended right there into the freeway. But it was there, bright and red, and octagonally menacing. So a warning to you all, dear readers, keep wide your eyes and ears when driving around Scandia, or yours may be the next perfect driving record broken. Drive safely.
