Still Blogging...

I'm still here, I know it's been a little over a month since my last blog, I apologize to those of you put out by that. Though I'm sure most of you got through your blogging adventures just fine without me for a little while. I had no real intention of taking a blogging sabbatical, it just kind of happened. I've had a lot on my mind lately and I haven't really been able to sort out all the jumble of it on paper. So here's an update for all you Heather fans out there...

New House Stuff: I must finally face the world of being a grown up. I will be moving into my own house in early August, with my very dear friend Alison, who will be moving in, in September. I am both excited and nervous about the prospect of having my own home. I am excited about my home, nervous about the financial responsibilities that come with it- especially since I don't yet have a job to afford the house, which brings us to our next subject...

Getting a Massage License is Ridiculously Time Consuming: I finished the massage program at CCSN roughly 3 weeks ago, one would think that ample time to go out into the wide world and find a job. Unfortunately for those wishing to practice massage in Las Vegas, it is not so easy. It is illegal to practice massage in Clark County, the City of Las Vegas, and Henderson without a license (and each of those three require a separate license for which they charge an arm and a leg in fees to obtain). You would however never guess that fact if you were to open up the phonebook to the massage section where there is a specific delineation between licensed massage therapists and non-licensed therapists. This section is also crammed full of the tasteless massage "parlor" adds that make it so difficult to be a massage therapist in Las Vegas. Provocatively posed Asian women adorn the pages that advertise "sensual male massages," and "choose between blond, brunette, red-haired, or Asian therapists." As if hair color improves the quality of the massage. So one would think it would be stupendously easy for law enforcement to arrest those massage therapists practicing without a license, right? They need only open the phonebook and go down the list. But for whatever reason that is not the case, and so these places exist. And so I must undergo a complete background (which will cost me in excess of $300) before I will be issued a license, Clark County and the City of Las Vegas can then rest assured that I am not a prostitute and will not be giving any "happy ending" massages. But before that I must be take the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NBETMB for short). In order to be deemed eligible to sit for the test I must send in my application, a notarized copy of my certificate of completion (who knows when I'll receive that in the mail), official copies of my transcripts (which makes the whole notarized copy of my certificate of completion superfluous), a passport style photo, a copy of my driver's license, and $225. After receiving all this the National Board for Therapeutic blah blah blah (NCBTMB) will process and review my application, they will then send me a letter telling me I am able to take the test. Then I must call the testing site to schedule when I will take the test. Once I have taken the test I must wait for my results to be mailed to me so that I can take them (along with a copy of my certificate of completion- which is dumb since I needed that to take the national exam anyway) to both the city and the county where I will pay an exorbitant amount in processing fees and a background check. Then finally, whenever the background check and application processing is complete, my quest will be complete and I will thankfully get my license in my hot little hands. Then I can finally, hopefully, find a nice cushy job in a nice cushy spa. The only problem is most nice cushy spas require a year of experience in a spa environment. So I suppose I'll have to slum it for awhile in a day spa, or hopefully get in on a know-somebody-who-knows-somebody basis.

Having said all that I have the utmost faith that everything will work out fine and I will eventually be exactly where I'm meant to be and will of course live happily ever after... but there's always that damn voice in the back of my head...
